Driving Away from the Wreck of the Day

Journal Entry: Sat Mar 21, 2009, 5:21 PM

Random dA Updates

After I posted my last journal I ended up disappearing for a month, so that massive dump of pictures that I was complaining about having to do never happened. Which means it will be happening soon. I was supposed to work on post editing everything this week but some emotional crap happened and I have not been in the right place mentally to work on my art. The dump will be coming though, especially since I just did two photo shoots in recent weeks and they came out really well.

Reading is a Discount Ticket to Everywhere

I received my Kindle2 and I am thoroughly satisfied with my purchase. It is so easy to use, very intuitive and it has definitely increased the amount I have been reading lately. My only complaint about it really is the size of the library they have available. Its not that the library is small, there are just a bunch of books that people have recommended to me that I can't find. My purchases so far have been Manifold: Time by Stephen Baxter (and the other two in the series), Coraline by Neil Gaiman, The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde, Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami, and Little Bee: A Novel by Chris Cleave. I have already finished Coraline and I am 56% done with Manifold: Time.

Love & Graveyards

I did two photo shoots in the past few weeks. One was with my friends Carlo and Brittany, who are a lovely couple with loads of chemistry. They also are stage actors so they know how to pose and interact in ways that are pleasing to capture and look at. It was definitely a fun and laid back shoot before it started raining and we had to go inside.

The second shoot I did was with my friend and fellow photographer Samantha Scibetta ~Int3stineNo0se. It was semi-impromptu because I really hadn't thought about any concepts I wanted to portray or any other ideas for the shoot. We decided ahead of time that we would be going to a graveyard near her house. Luckily, Sam has a lot of awesome clothing to choose from so I went to her house and sifted through her stuff to find items that stood out to me for what I was feeling that day. I ended up picking out two outfits so we ended up shooting in two places. It was great because Sam had previously shot in both places so she knew some cool spots to take pictures. I can't wait to shoot with Sam again and I already am starting to think of some ideas for next time.

Models Wanted

I am still looking to do some shoots and I need models. I have a few of my friends lined up but I am looking for other artists to work with that I am not as familiar with (yes, I consider models artists). All of the work is going to be TFP/TFCD because I really don't have money for compensation right now. I am willing to travel to the model depending on the distance. I am really just looking for local people to work with in the NY/Northern NJ area. If you are interested please Note me or email me at AmarisSkyePhotography@gmail.com.

Living Life & Loving You

Random dA Updates

So, I am about to do a massive dump of pictures, which is something I hate doing. The fact of the matter is I am so behind on posting pictures that I feel so cluttered and unless I get them all over with at once I don't think I will be relieved. So I am sorry ahead of time for the 30+ pictures I am about to post in the next two days.

On another note - I will be featuring the winners of the Love is a Four Letter Concept photography contest in my journal. If you want more information on it go to =JacquiJax's journal. There are some cool prizes so I recommend you check it out. Submissions end this Friday.

7665 Days on Earth

I ordered my Kindle and just in time too because Amazon just released the Kindle2. I am so excited and should be receiving it between March 9 and 13. I will post a review of it here once I get it and use it a bit.

I am still uber excited about the trip my fiancee and I are taking to New Hope, Pennsylvania for my birthday/valentine's day/our 2 year anniversary. We are leaving on the 20th and coming back the evening of the 22nd. We never go away so it will be nice, particularly since we are staying at a bed and breakfast. He is also going to take me shopping in some of the surrounding towns. Expect some amazing new pictures from this trip.

The shoots are mostly going to have to be during the day because I really don't have a proper set-up for lighting yet and many of the shoots will be out doors. All of the work is going to be TFP because I really don't have money for compensation right now. I am willing to travel to the model depending on the distance. Random dA Updates

I am down to 255 Messages to go through which really isn't so bad, especially since 83 of them are faves of my work and watches (I really should thank people). I have finally started submitting my own deviations again and joined a bunch of clubs (see below).

Also - I will be featuring the winners of the Love is a Four Letter Concept photography contest in my journal. If you want more information on it go to =JacquiJax's journal. There are some cool prizes so I recommend you check it out.

7665 Days on Earth

My 21st birthday is next Tuesday and although I love celebrating my birthday I am not as excited as I have seen other people get for their own 21st birthdays. My mom called me and asked if she could take me out to dinner. I told her that I have one stipulation and that is that I get to order a drink or two. I mean its my 21st birthday and its the first time I will be able to order a drink at a restaurant. Now, I am not a big drinker (aka I don't drink to get trashed) but I do enjoy a glass of either wine or liqueur in the evenings at home. Maybe that is why I am not super excited or maybe its because I really can't think of anything I want for my birthday (except a Kindle).

What I am excited about is that my fiancee and I are going away to New Hope, Pennsylvania for my birthday/valentine's day/our 2 year anniversary. We are leaving on the 20th and coming back the evening of the 22nd. We never go away so it will be nice, particularly since we are staying at a bed and breakfast. New Year-New Camera-New Projects -New President

Journal Entry: Sat Jan 24, 2009, 11:39 AM

Random dA Updates

I have officially gotten my devWatches down to 0 Deviations. It was very difficult because I was on hiatus for a while and when I came back I had over 20k of them to look at. I still have to work on my Messages - I have 2,773 Journals to go through, most of which I will probably just delete because they aren't relative 2 years later. I have finally started submitting my own deviations and joined a bunch of clubs (see below).

New Year

Its a new year and I am pretty excited. I am in my final semester of county college and will hopefully be going to either Montclair State University or New Jersey City University in the Fall. I have to finish my applications this week (GAH! I hate writing essays!) and sign up for auditions. Although I love being a Musical Theater Major having to audition for college is rough but I'm sure I'll be fine - providing my Costochondritis doesn't come back.

New Camera-New Projects

I started the 365 project on January 7th. Basically what this means is that I am taking a picture a day for an entire year. The main reason I decided to take on this project is that I got a brand new DSLR (Canon EOS Digital Rebel XS) for Christmas and I want to become more accustomed to using it. I have used both film and digital SLRs before but its been about three years and the XS is a whole new monster to me. I am slowly beginning to remember the things I was taught in photography class. Right now I only have 2 lenses and a tripod and I really need to get a proper flash as well as other equipment. Having a tiny apartment is also a hindrance because there is not really any place for me to shoot but my fiancee and I won't be moving until I finish college, so I guess I will have to make do.

New President

January 20th was a fabulous day! I have been waiting since November 4th like a little kid waits for their birthday for this day to come. It was wonderful to see our new President and Vice President get sworn in. I was lucky that my professor for the class I have from 11:30am-12:45pm on Tuesdays allowed us to watch the inaugural address. Its so nice to have a President that is able to present himself intelligently and is a remarkable speaker. This was the first presidential election I voted in and I am ecstatic that the candidate I voted for won. This is a dawn of a new age for the USA and I am so thrilled to have been a part of it. I am proud to say I helped elect President Barack Obama!

Random Updates

I have gotten my devWatches down to 15,730 Deviations. I still have a long way to go but I have already taken care of about 6,000.

Summer Films

In other news - I have been going to movies a lot over the summer. So far I have seen (in order I saw them): 88 Minutes, Iron Man, Kung-Fu Panda, Wall-E, Indiana Jones: Crystal Skull, Hellboy: Golden Army, Batman: Dark Knight and Hancock.

In my opinion the ones people MUST SEE are Batman, Hancock, and Kung-Fu Panda. I saw both Batman and Kung-fu Panda in IMAX and they were both ABSOLUTELY worth the extra money. Batman is by far one of the best films I have ever seen, plain and simple. Kung-Fu Panda has such a great story and the voice actors were amazing. They were so believable that I never even thought about who was playing the characters. Iron Man was quite enjoyable and I don't know how it could have been made better it just simply wasn't as good as some of the others. Hellboy was mostly enjoyable and beautifully filmed, but I couldn't stand the new Abe. 88 Minutes was pretty great but nothing spectacular. Wall-E had so much potential and I ended up a bit disappointed. I remember when I left the theater I didn't feel good or bad about the experience. Indiana Jones was just dumb and I was thoroughly ashamed that I had seen it. My 11 year old brother liked it though - which isn't saying much. I'm sorry but there is no way someone could survive a nuclear bomb in a lead lined refrigerator.

I still want to see Pineapple Express, The Mummy, Wanted, and Eagle Eye.
